HIGHLIGHT ANNUAL KING HOLIDAY HOOPFEST PRESENTED BY BING
KING WEEKEND EVENT ON MONDAY, JAN. 16 AT UW’s ALASKA AIRLINES ARENA WILL BENEFIT BOYS & GIRLS CLUBS OF KING COUNTY AND FRIENDS OF HOOP
Bothell High School’s Zach LaVine and California’s Long Beach Poly High School’s Jordan Bell will highlight a full day of prep basketball action at the annual King Holiday Hoopfest beginning at 9 a.m., Monday, Jan. 16. The competition will be held at the University of Washington’s Alaska Airlines Arena at Hec Edmundson Pavilion.
LaVine and his Bothell teammates will face Portland’s Jefferson High in Monday’s 12:30 p.m. game. Bell and Long Beach Poly High will challenge Seattle’s Rainier Beach at 4 p.m. LaVine and Bell are listed among ESPN’s Top 100 High School Players.
Woodinville and Cleveland high-school girls’ teams will tip off at 10:30 a.m.
A tribute to Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr., featuring local African American community leaders, will take place during Hoopfest beginning at 5:30 p.m.
King Holiday Hoopfest alumni feature several NBA stars including Oklahoma City Thunder guard Nate Robinson and Houston Rockets forward Terrence Williams from Rainier Beach H.S.; Phoenix Suns guard Aaron Brooks from Franklin H.S.; Philadelphia 76ers center Spencer Hawes and Minnesota Timberwolves guard Martell Webster from Seattle Prep; Portland Trail Blazers guard Brandon Roy from Garfield H.S.; Milwaukee Bucks forward Jon Brockman from Snohomish H.S. and Detroit Pistons guard Rodney Stuckey from Kentwood H.S. All proceeds from the events will benefit Boys & Girls Clubs of King County and Friends of Hoop.
Boys & Girls Clubs of King County inspire and enable young people, especially those from disadvantaged circumstances, to realize their full potential as productive, responsible and caring citizens. With 12 full-service clubs and 28 before- and after-school program sites, the organization is one of the largest of its kind in the nation, serving 18,000-plus members annually.
Advance-sale tickets for the King Holiday Hoopfest can be purchased for $10 per ticket by logging onto www.fohseattle.com. Tickets are also available at the door on the day of the event beginning at 8:30 a.m. at UW’s Alaska Airlines Arena ticket window.
